CPCS Blue Competent Operator Card Renewal

Learn how to renew your CPCS Competent Operator Card.

Renewing Your Card:

To renew your card 3 months before it expires, you need to:

1. Hold a valid CPCS Blue Competent Operator Card for the category you are renewing.
2. Pass the relevant health, safety, and environment test within the last two years.
3. Pass the CPCS CPD Renewal relevant to the categories you are renewing.
4. Show ongoing practical operating experience through one of these routes:
   • New Digital Logbook / Old Paper Logbook
   • On-Site Assessment with a registered test centre
   • CPCS Practical test with a registered test centre
   • VQ (if taken in the past 2 years)

Complete the F1/3 application to renew your card. You can do this online or by mailing the application form. If a fee is required, you will be sent an online link. Applications can be made 3 months before the expiry date.

A Blue Competent Operator Card will be issued for five years from the last expiry date. Full details on how to renew are available in the Scheme Booklet for Operators.

If Your Card Has Expired:

You have up to 5 years to renew after the card expires, as long as you meet the above criteria.

If you can’t meet the renewal requirements for a category, you can “Bank” a category until you can meet the requirements. At least one category must be renewed to bank others.

If Your Card is Over 5 Years Expired:

If your card is more than five years past the expiry date, you will need to:

1. Pass the relevant health, safety, and environment test.
2. Pass the CPCS Theory Test for each category held.
3. Pass the CPCS Practical Test for each category held.
4. Hold the relevant VQ (if not held, a Trained Operator Card will be issued).
